IND vs SL: India bowled seven no-balls in the first innings of the second Twenty20 international against Sri Lanka on Thursday, which is a joint-highest number among all full member cricket teams. Five no-balls were contributed to the innings by Arshdeep Singh, while two more were added by fellow bowler Umran Malik. India lost 12 additional runs in the innings due to four wides and one leg-bye.
Sri Lanka amasses huge total
India’s lack of focus allowed Sri Lanka to amass 206 runs in the first innings. Even the skipper, Dasun Shanaka, was bowled by one of Arshdeep’s no-balls in the 19th over. The skipper took advantage of the rebound to score 20 runs in the final over and finish his innings undefeated on 56 from only 22 pitches.
Breaking his previous record of four no-balls against South Africa, Arshdeep now has five no-balls in a T20 innings, which ties him with West Indies’ Keemo Paul for the most by a bowler from a full member nation. Arshdeep Singh will take home this unwanted record, which will get etched with his name for long. In his first and team’s second over, Arshdeep Singh gave away 19 runs. Sri Lanka batter Kusal Mendis played an exceptional knock of 31 ball 52.
Which other team has bowled these many no balls?
Other full-member teams who have given up as many no-balls in one inning include Sri Lanka, Ireland, and Afghanistan. Ghana’s bowling against Uganda in which it made 10 unlawful deliveries holds the record for the most no-balls bowled in an innings.
Arshdeep will surely be unhappy with this unwanted record which has been added with his name. Star pacer Arshdeep Singh was severely trolled by netizens for awful bowling.
