Indian skipper Rohit Sharma entered the list of elites during the IND Vs SL first ODI. The way he started his innings, it looks like he has not left the T20i mood. He was smacking every Sri Lankan bowler out of the ground on a very tough pitch.
The R. Premadasa Stadium pitch is tough for batsmen. You can see that from the way Sri Lankan batsmen and how Shubman Gill played. But it was no problem for the Hitman who was sailing through.
It took him just 33 deliveries to complete his half-century on a pitch that was looking like hell for batsmen. But before that, he reached another milestone that has put him alongside the greats of the game.
IND Vs SL: Rohit Storm
Before this match, the Indian skipper needed only 19 runs to complete 15,000 runs as an opener. And he did that comfortably and became only the 10th opener in cricket history to achieve that record.
It was a perfect half-century and was dismissed after scoring 58 runs in just 47 deliveries. His innings included 7 boundaries and 3 sensational sixes. Dunith Wellalage took him out who is having a brilliant game with both bat and ball.
He took the attack to the Sri Lankan bowling attack and started his inning with a six on the first delivery.
One Of The Greats
Rohit has now become the 10th opening batsman to complete 15,000 runs. He has also done it in the second-fewest innings. It took him 352 innings to reach this milestone only behind the great Sachin Tendulkar who achieved this feat in just 331 innings.
