IND vs-SL: At the opening ODI of the three-match series in Guwahati, India led by Rohit Sharma is contesting against Sri Lanka. After choosing to bat first, India was approached by Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka. However, Shanaka’s choice did not bode well for Sri Lanka as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, India’s opening duo, put together a century partnership. Sri Lanka appeared to have no luck as both hitters narrowly avoided outs, and the third umpire agreed with the on-field umpire’s decision.
Shubman Gill survives a close call during IND vs SL
Sharma avoided being declared leg before wicket against Wanindu Hasaranga, but Shubman Gill was given a reprieve against left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage. Gill was struck in the pad while attempting to stop the ball, and Sri Lanka went all out with their appeal. Dasun Shanaka decided to request a review after the on-field umpire ruled the batsman not out. It appeared square, and Sri Lanka was prepared to rejoice.
Virat Kohli was also prepared to enter the field of play. There was, however, a turn in the story. The moment of impact between the pad and the ball rescued the batter even though everything was working against Shubman Gill. The hitter survived because it was clear from the replays that the umpire made the call. The sight of this stunned and dismayed Sri Lanka. Kohli, however, found it hard to comprehend how Gill survived.
