IND vs SL: India’s all-time best number 3 batter Virat Kohli has once again proved himself by scoring a terrific hundred vs Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the three-match series. Kohli looked in top-class form right from the time he came in to bat.
45th ODI ton for Kohli
This was Virat Kohli’s 45th ODI ton and now he is just four centuries away from equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s 49 hundred in ODIs. He has also broken Sachin’s record (19) for most ODI tons at home. He now sits at the top with 20 tons at home.
Balanced knock from Kohli
The 34-year-old gave good assistance to skipper Rohit Sharma first who ended up scoring 83 runs in just 67 balls. Later along with Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, Kohli played the role of an anchor and guided the Indian innings to a good position.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added 143 runs for the first wicket. Gill scored 70 runs under huge pressure as he is playing in place of Ishan Kishan who scored a double ton in his last ODI game.
“I am not going to take anything from Ishan. He has been wonderful for us. He got a double hundred and I know what it takes to get a double hundred, it is a great achievement. But just to be honest and be fair to the guys who have done really well before that we need to give those guys enough chances as well,” said Rohit Sharma on giving reason why Kishan was dropped.
