IND vs SL: India beat Sri Lanka by 67 runs in the first One Day Internationals to go one up in the three-match series at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Chasing the huge total of 373, Sri Lanka lost early wickets in a quick succession and at Indian bowlers took the game away from them. Dasun Shanaka top-scored Sri Lanka by scoring his second century in ODI cricket. Shanaka remained not out at 108 runs in 88 balls taking his total to 306/8. The skipper also added 100 runs with Kasun Rajita for the ninth wicket.
Sri Lanka surrenders to Umran Malik’s pace
Umran Malik was the pick of the Indian bowlers in the game but he was expensive too. Mohammed Siraj picked two wickets while Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya and Yuzvendra Chahal picked one apiece.
The master’s knock from Kohli
Earlier, India posted 373/7 in 50 overs with Virat Kohli being the top-scorer after completing his 45th ODI ton. Kohli was impressive but his classy form has also broken Sachin Tendulkar’s massive record of scoring the most centuries at home soil. Kohli now sits at the top with his 20 tons in India while Sachin Tendulkar has 19 centuries to his name.
India skipper Rohit Sharma also returned to form as he scored a blistering 83-run knock to guide India to a good start along with Shubman Gill (70).
India now lead the series 1-0, the second match will be played at Eden Gardens on Thursday.
