IND vs WI: Maintaining his scorching streak in the shortest version of cricket, Suryakumar Yadav notched up another impressive half-century for India during the fifth and ultimate T20I match against the West Indies on Sunday (August 13) at the Central Broward Park in Florida.
Following India’s decision to bat first upon winning the toss, their opening batsmen were unable to replicate the remarkable performance from the previous day (August 12), wherein they forged a monumental opening partnership of 165 runs. This feat stood as a historic milestone, jointly sharing the record for India’s highest opening partnership in T20Is with KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma.
Suryakumar Yadav’s steady knock in fifth IND vs WI T20I
A rapid innings of 27 runs off 18 balls by Tilak Varma played a pivotal role in preventing India from facing defeat. Subsequently, Suryakumar Yadav assumed command of the innings. Despite Sanju Samson and Hardik Pandya facing disappointment once more, the vice-captain of the Indian team subdued his inherent attacking style and showcased a determined performance, crafting a resilient 61 runs from a mere 45 balls.
Marking his 50th T20I appearance, Suryakumar Yadav achieved his 18th half-century or higher score in the shortest format. This achievement brought him on par with Virat Kohli’s record for the most 50+ scores by an Indian player within the first 50 T20I innings. It’s noteworthy that among these 18 innings, Suryakumar has secured three centuries, a feat not accomplished by Kohli in his corresponding 18 innings.
This feat also holds a global significance, as Suryakumar Yadav’s record aligns him with both Virat Kohli and Babar Azam. Babar Azam, like Kohli, achieved 18 50+ scores within his initial fifty T20I innings, making it a rare shared accomplishment among these prominent cricket figures.
