IND W Vs SL W: It was a historic win for the Sri Lanka women’s team. When no one gave them a chance against the mighty Indian team, they fought against everything and everyone to clinch this maiden title.
Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu and Harshita Samarawickrama played inspiring knocks to get Sri Lanka ahead in the chase. Both of them kept India out of the game throughout.
Well, they were also helped by the Indian team who were atrocious in the field. 165 is a very good total in the final and to not be able to defend that is a travesty. But take nothing away from the Sri Lankan batters who orchestrated this chase wonderfully.
Rise Of Sri Lanka
When powerhouses South Africa, New Zealand, and West Indies have gone down in quality, Sri Lanka W has been so good recently. Especially their batters, who have been clutching it for them recently.
Their skipper Chamari Athapaththu has been on fire in this tournament and has scored 300 runs. She is the cornerstone of this team. But even when she was dismissed and India tried to come back, Harshita made sure it did not happen.
Sri Lanka W became the third team to win this title apart from Bangladesh and India. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh now have one title each while India has won the title 7 times.
IND W Vs SL W: Atrocious Fielding
But considering everything, it was an atrocious effort by this Indian side when it came to fielding. Misfields dropped catches, and lack of urgency, all of these factors combined for an underwhelming performance by the team.
The misfields were spread throughout the game and it allowed the Sri Lankan batters to bat without any pressure. To make the matter worse, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur dropped a sitter of Harshita at a very crucial stage.
But no matter what, this team of Sri Lanka deserves all the praise. It is a team of warriors that have etched their names in history books amidst all the odds against them. It is a day that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
