IND vs PAK: The Australian Cricket Board is considering organising a Test match between the bitter rivals after successfully hosting India vs. Pakistan during the T20 World Cup. Given that bilateral cricket between the two neighbours has been stopped since 2007, the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) is investigating the possibilities of hosting India and Pakistan.
MCC Chief puts on the proposal for IND vs PAK
Pakistan and India have only faced off against each other at the T20 and ODI World Cups, the Asia Cup, and a bilateral limited overs series that India hosted in 2013.
The last time they ran into each other was at the T20 World Cup in October, when over 90,000 spectators packed into the Melbourne Cricket Ground to watch India triumph in a nail-biting last-ball contest.
MCC Chief Executive Stuart Fox stated that the atmosphere at that game shown that there would be no trouble filling the space for a test series between the two.
India and Pakistan have not played Test match since 2007
Test matches, the longest format of the game, have not been played between India and Pakistan since 2007, but the possibility of the series happening still depends on BCCI and PCB. Fox in a statement told, “The atmosphere for that game, I’ve never felt anything like it. The noise after every ball was phenomenal. Three (tests) in a row would be lovely at the MCG, you’d fill it every time.”
“We’ve taken that up with Cricket Australia. I know the (Victoria) government has as well. It’s enormously complicated from what I can understand, amongst a really busy schedule. So I think that’s probably the greater challenge,” Fox said.
Fox expressed his hope that Cricket Australia would continue pursuing the idea with the International Cricket Council, the game’s international regulatory body.
