India is looking to retain their Champions Of Asia title in 2025. The defending champions are looking to host the Asia Cup 2025 but will be without their two biggest names in the squad.
The tournament will feature six teams including India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, and the sixth team will be decided via qualification round. Nepal won the qualification round last year and would like to do the same this year.
All this information was revealed following the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) release of an Invitation for Expressions of Interest (IEOI) document on Saturday. The ACC further released information regarding the Women’s Asia Cup and also the Asia Cup in 2027.
Asia Cup 2025 At Home!
India dominantly won the 2023 edition of the Asian Championship. They defeated Pakistan twice and annihilated Sri Lanka in the final. They would like to do the same at home.
ACC also revealed that the next edition of the Women’s Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format and is scheduled for 2026. Meanwhile, Bangladesh will host the 2027 edition of Asia Cup which will be in the ODI format.
The document by the ACC also mentioned that all details, including schedules, dates, formats, and venues, are tentative and subject to change at the ACC’s discretion without any liability.
No Kohli and Rohit?
India would like to retain their title but will be without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. That is because the 2025th edition of the Asian Championship will be in T20 format. As we all know both of these legends have retired from this format.
Ravindra Jadeja, who also announced his retirement after the T20 World Cup will not be part of the tournament. But the Blues still have a very strong squad in the T20i format and would like to retain their title.
