India vs Sri Lanka: Shivam Mavi achieves this feat on his debut, just the 3rd Indian to do so

India vs Sri Lanka: Shivam Mavi has produced a blistering performance by taking four wickets on his debut international game for India. Mavi’s figures of 4/22 helped India register a close win vs Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Third Indian cricketer to pick four wickets on debut

He also became just the third Indian men’s cricketer to take four wickets on T20I debut. Barinder Sran and Pragyan Ojha are the other India bowlers to do.

The young pacer picked up two wickets in the Powerplay, sending back Pathum Nissanka and Dhananjaya de Silva to start his debut on a fine note. Alongside skipper Hardik Pandya, Mavi gave India a good start with the ball as the visitors managed just 35 runs in the first six overs.

Performed at crucial moment

The right-arm quick returned to break a crucial 40-run stand, dismissing Wanindu Hasaranga (21 off 10 balls) in the 15th over to leave Dasun Shanaka with a huge task on his hand.

“The landing zone was a little slippery. Was waiting for six years after playing U19. Had to work hard in those six years – got injured as well. For a while it looked like my dream will remain a dream. But I kept at it. Having played the IPL, the nervousness is a little less. My idea in the powerplay is to attack and get them out. Favourite dismissal was the first one, getting him bowled,” said Mavi at post-match presentation.
