Dutee Chand: One of the most celebrated athletes of India, Dutee Chand will be appealing her four years ban that was put on her after she failed the doping test. The four-year ban was imposed by NADA as Dutee failed two rest period dope tests.
The double Asian Games medalist was served the ban on Thursday as her two samples taken in December turned out to be positive. The samples were taken on December 5 and 26 respectively.
Both of the samples contained the same doping agent listed under “WADA’s 2023 prohibited substances.” According to the reports, the blood sample contained “other anabolic agents/SARMS.”
Scraped Results
Dutee’s ban would be counted from January 3, 2023. All her competitive results after December 5, 2022 will be scraped as the first sample was taken on that date. All her accomplishments after the first sample will be written off.
National Dope Testing Laboratory also issued a statement regarding the situation. They started the appeal submitted by Dutee and her counsel. The committee further stated how the athlete has accepted the use of a banned substance because of joint pain. Dutee and her counsel have stated that the substance was recommended by the physiotherapist.
Dutee Chand Will Challenge The Ban
Dutee’s counsel Parth Goswami came out and stated to PTI that Dutee has been a “clean athlete” and it was a case of “unintentional consumption.” He further stated that the experts were able to mark the source of the substance in the body.
This means that there was no intent of consuming the banned substance. He further stated that the substance was never used to gain any kind of sporting advantage. Goswami further confirmed that they are in the process of filing an appeal. They are hopeful that they will convince the panel.
He further commented that Dutee is the pride of India and has had an illustrious career. Dutee has gone through various dope tests on international and national stages and has always been clear.
