BCCI President Sourav Ganguly’s request to reduce the period of quarantine in Brisbane for the Indian team is likely to be rejected. This information was given in a report by the Sydney Morning Herald. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the players are supposed to remain in isolation for two weeks before landing on the field. Indian team is set to tour Australia in the latter half of November.
The newspaper wrote, ‘Queensland health officials will not exempt cricket’s most powerful country from the stringent national protocol.” But the Cricket Australia (CA) has not announced the revised schedule of the series.
The Board for Control of Cricket in India stated (BCCI) wants the period of segregation to be reduced so that the players can practice in a bio-safe environment instead of being locked in hotel rooms.
Ganguly said in July, “We hope that the period of segregation will be reduced somewhat. We do not want players to sit in hotel rooms for two weeks. It will be very disappointing. ‘
The report said that the Indian board has sought permission to expand the list of players, coaches, support staff, and family members on the tour of Australia after the IPL final on November 10 in the UAE.
The Indian team will tour Australia with 23 to 25 players. Support specialists Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari, along with head coach Ravi Shastri, will be on a six-day quarantine in Dubai as well.
