Three months back, wrestlers from India accused the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief of sexual harassment and misappropriation and mismanagement of WFI funds. On April 23, the wrestlers returned to perform at Jantar Mantar.
The Olympic Association said that this is tarnishing the country’s image. On Thursday, the Indian Olympic Association has given a big statement expressing grief over this protest after the country’s famous and medal-winning wrestlers returned to the dharna. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) said that the wrestlers’ protest was tarnishing the country’s image and urged them to come to the Athletes’ Commission instead of protesting on the streets.
With the return of the strike, the wrestlers have alleged that the Delhi Police has refused to register an FIR against the WFI chief.
Several top wrestlers of the country have taken to the streets against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), including top Indian international wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik. Which has again started its protest against WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh at Jantar Mantar.
Athletes should come to the commission instead of protesting According to sources, the IOA is very unhappy with the Indian Olympic Association wrestlers protesting. The members of the association are unanimous that what the wrestlers are doing is tarnishing the image of the country and should not be done. There is a way to protest and it is not on the streets. The association believes that instead of protesting on the streets, the wrestlers should come to the Athletes’ Commission and talk openly about their problems.
AC has ordered to list the case. While talking to the media on this issue, the wrestlers had requested to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A Supreme Council bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud said that the allegations leveled by the wrestlers required consideration of the court and directed that the matter be listed for April 28.
