Indian Women’s Compound Archery Team Bags Historic Gold at World Championship, Receives Praise from PM Modi!

World Championship: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media on Saturday to extend his heartfelt congratulations to the Indian women’s compound team, comprising Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami, and Parneet Kaur. He applauded their dedication and hard work as they strived hard to win the medal for the country.

Indian Team Wins Gold at World Championship

The Indian women’s compound team achieved a remarkable victory in the final by defeating their top-seeded opponents, Mexico, with a score of 235-229. Prior to the final, in the semifinals, the Indian trio secured a victory against the champions Colombia with a score of 220-216. In the quarterfinals, India emerged victorious with a close score of 228-226 against Chinese Taipei.

Taking to Twitter, PM Narendra Modi shared a photo of the team with the caption, “A proud moment for India as our exceptional compound Women’s Team brings home India’s first-ever gold medal in the World Archery Championship held in Berlin. Congratulations to our champions! Their hard work and dedication have led to this outstanding outcome.”

The inaugural World Archery Championship took place in 1931, and from 1995 onwards, compound events became a part of the competition. India made its debut in the Championship in 1981, held in Italy. In the previous edition of the World Archery Championship, which was hosted in the Netherlands in 2019, India earned a medal in the recurve category. The Championship is held every two years, and to date, India has garnered an impressive record of 9 silver medals and 2 bronze medals in the history of this prestigious event.
