Dominating performance by the bowlers
India needed to chase down a total of 119 runs to win, but their top three batters were dismissed early, making it a challenging run-chase. However, Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh came together in the middle and worked in tandem to keep India in the game. Shafali Verma scored 28, Smriti Mandhana scored 10 while the key player of last match, Jemimah scored one run.
The Indian bowlers put in a disciplined performance, limiting the Windies to 118/6 in their 20 overs. Stafanie Taylor, the opener for West Indies, scored the highest with 42 runs from 40 balls, while Shemaine Campbelle added 30 runs. Deepti Sharma took three wickets for just 15 runs, making her the most successful bowler for India. Pooja Vastrakar and Renuka Singh also contributed with one wicket each.
West Indies’ decision didn’t favour them
At the start of the match, the West Indies captain Hayley Matthews won the coin toss and decided that her team would bat first against India. The Indian team introduced two new players, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and spinner Devika Vaidya, who replaced Yastika Bhatia and Harleen Doel. The West Indies team also made a change by bringing in spinner Karishma Ramharack to replace Zaida James.
