Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali is among the other contenders for the title sponsors of the Indian Premier League 2020. Earlier Chinese mobile company VIVO has withdrawn as the title sponsors for this year’s IPL which will be played in UAE.
“We are considering the IPL title sponsorship for this year since we want to give the Patanjali brand a global marketing platform,” said the Patanjali spokesperson, S.K Tijarawala as quoted by Economic Times. He also confirmed that Patanjali has already made a proposal in front of BCCI for their sponsorship in IPL 2020.
There are many speculations on whether BCCI would allow Patanjali as their leading title sponsors for IPL or not. Since IPL 2020 will be played in UAE, so IPL needs a multinational and heavily invested unicorn brand. Patanjali is a supreme nationalistic brand and its also the leading Indian company in PM Modi’s ‘Aatamanibhar Abhiyan’. The organizers of IPL would definitely hunt for a strong multinational company as their title sponsors and they might not consider Patanjali in this caravan.
“Patanjali as a title sponsor for IPL will do more for Patanjali than for IPL. While the caste hierarchy among brands could play out, Patanjali owning the title sponsorship would be contextual from a nationalist perspective, since there is an enormous anti-China sentiment prevailing in the country,” said brand strategist Harish Bijoor.
Despite the entire IPL being played out of the country for the second time in its history and possibly in the empty stadiums of UAE. IPL is a high visibility property in terms of media viewership. The return of IPL will also mark the return of mega television advertising rate world-wide. So, in that case, Patanjali may get sidelined when the others come in this picture.
Jio, Amazon, Tata group, Dream11, Adani group, and Byjus are the prior contenders for IPL 2020 sponsors.
