IPL 2023: The 16th season of the Indian Premier League is about to begin in a few days. There will be 74 overall matches in the event, which will last for approximately two months. The start of the event is eagerly anticipated by the fans. A few of the players won’t be taking part in the competition this year owing to certain problems.
Notably, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant, two of India’s star players, will not be participating in this edition of the tournament. Additionally, due to injuries, Australian captain Pat Cummins and Kyle Jameson will also be missing from the tournament. These absences will undoubtedly be a loss for their respective teams and may impact the overall quality of the tournament. Read below to know the top five players who will be missing out on IPL 2023.
1. Jasprit Bumrah
Mumbai Indians’ fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will, unfortunately, be unable to participate in any matches for his team this season due to a persistent back injury. Bumrah has been battling this injury for an extended period of time and has not played for India since the 2022 Asia Cup. Despite ongoing efforts to recover, his back injury has required long treatment. As a result, he sought treatment in New Zealand and underwent surgery, which has ultimately ruled him out of the upcoming IPL 2023 season entirely.
2. Rishabh Pant
Star player and skipper of Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant met with a severe accident in December, 2022. He suffered severe injuries and he is still in the hospital getting treatment. He is unlikely to feature in any kind of competitive cricket for the next six months.
3. Kyle Jamieson
New Zealand’s fast bowler Kyle Jamieson will also unfortunately not be participating in the upcoming IPL 2023 season. This young and promising fast bowler has also been ruled out due to injury and required surgery. Jamieson was set to play for the Chennai team this year, but his injury has forced him to withdraw from the tournament.
4. Pat Cummins
Australian cricket team captain Pat Cummins, who was set to play for Kolkata Knight Riders, had withdrawn from the IPL due to a busy schedule in last year’s November itself. This means he will not be taking part in this year’s tournament. In the previous season, Cummins, who was one of the most expensive players bought in the auction, did not perform as expected for Kolkata.
5. Jhye Richardson
Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement in the Mumbai Indians lineup, Jhye Richardson, has been injured and will not compete in the upcoming IPL 2023 competition. He will not be participating due to a hamstring injury. Moreover, it’s anticipated that his return would be so slow that it could be difficult for him to participate in the Ashes series following the IPL.
