IPL 2023: Naveen-ul-Haq, while having a casual conversation with his teammate Avesh Khan from Lucknow Super Giants, openly stated his preference for not engaging in sledging against opposition batsmen at the start of a match. This revelation comes shortly after his heated altercation with Virat Kohli. Naveen and Kohli were involved in a surprising exchange of words during a game between LSG and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Lucknow. Naveen uttered something to Kohli, which led to the former RCB captain responding aggressively towards Naveen.
What had happened between Naveen and Virat?
During the 17th over of Lucknow Super Giants’ innings, an incident occurred that led to a clash between Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq. The confrontation escalated further after the game when all the players were exchanging handshakes. As a consequence of their on-field behaviour, both Kohli and Naveen were fined, and Gautam Gambhir, who was also involved in a heated exchange with Virat, faced similar consequences.
Following the eventful exchange, Lucknow shared a video on their Twitter account in which Naveen engaged in a light-hearted chat session with fellow fast bowler Avesh. Among the various questions asked during the session, one of them pertained to the topic of sledging.
When asked about his favourite instance of sledging on the cricket field, whether by Naveen himself or directed towards him, the Afghan pacer disclosed that he does not personally engage in sledging against opposing batsmen at the beginning of matches. He mentioned that he does not like sledging upfront. He said, “I don’t sledge someone upfront, It’s not my habit.”

The relationship between the two appears to be strained, as Naveen recently shared a story that seemed to be a subtle jab at Royal Challengers Bangalore following their loss to Mumbai Indians. In response, Kohli shared a video on his own stories featuring Kevin Hart, in which the comedian discussed the importance of letting go of grudges and moving forward in life.
