IPL 2023: During the second-to-last over of the 58th Match of IPL 2023 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants, spectators disrupted the game by hurling nuts and bolts at the LSG dugout following a contentious ruling regarding a full toss delivery by Avesh Khan. Initially, the on-field umpires deemed it a no-ball, but the third umpire overturned the decision after the LSG team requested a review. A photo from the moment has now gone viral on the internet.

After the disruption from the crowd, a heated altercation ensued between the umpires and both team managements, causing a significant delay in the game. Amidst the unrest in the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) dugout, their coach, Andy Flower, expressed his frustration towards the umpires by making an obscene gesture. It is worth mentioning that the police had to intervene during the match, as certain members of the LSG support staff had to leave the dugout and step onto the field to shield themselves from the aggressive behaviour of the crowd.
Heinrich Klaasen, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s leading run-scorer in the innings, expressed his disappointment regarding the crowd’s actions, which was disheartening. He also acknowledged that the disruption had an impact on the game’s momentum, which had previously been in favour of Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The disorderly conduct of the crowd in Hyderabad has become the center of attention, with former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar weighing in on the matter. He criticized the Hyderabad Cricket Association for failing to offer sufficient protection to the teams in terms of dugout security. Gavaskar pointed out that while most dugouts nowadays are equipped with flexible glass panels, the ones in Hyderabad were only furnished with something resembling “beach umbrellas.”
