IPL 2023: During the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), Mohammed Siraj, the fast bowler for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, has reported a suspicious approach made to him to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU).
Mohammed Siraj approaches BCCI ACU
RCB’s star pacer Mohammed Siraj informed India’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) about a corrupt approach from an unknown person. The individual had lost a significant amount of money in a prior IPL match and was seeking inside information on Siraj’s team. Without delay, Mohammed Siraj reported the incident to the ACU authorities, who were closely monitoring all player activities both at the hotel and on the field.
A senior BCCI official anonymously stated, “It wasn’t a bookie who approached Siraj. It is a driver from Hyderabad who is addicted to betting on matches, He had lost huge money and approached Siraj for inside information. Siraj reported the approach immediately. The law enforcement authorities have nabbed the man. More details are being awaited.”
What is BCCI ACU?
In response to the detainment of cricketers S Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan, and Ajit Chandila, as well as former CSK team principal Gurunath Meiyappan, on allegations of spot-fixing, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has implemented measures to combat corruption in the game. The BCCI has designated a specific Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) official to monitor the movements of each team’s players in the hotel and on the field.
To prevent incidents that damage cricket’s reputation, the BCCI has mandated that players attend an Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) workshop on what actions to take and avoid, with consequences in place for those who fail to report any corrupt tactics. These actions indicate the BCCI’s commitment to preserving the sport’s integrity and eliminating the scourge of corruption.
