IPL 2023: On Wednesday, the legendary Indian wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni will be leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the 200th time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) when they take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Dhoni is known for his remarkable consistency as a skipper in IPL history, having led CSK to four IPL titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021 editions. Although Mumbai Indians (MI) have won five IPL trophies, MS-led CSK has been consistently successful. CSK has reached the final four stage of the tournament in 11 out of 13 editions of the league, finishing as runners-up on five occasions.
MS Dhoni’s staggering record in IPL
MS Dhoni has captained 213 matches in the IPL, winning 125, losing 87, and with one match ending in a draw. With a win percentage of 58.96, he is considered one of the most successful IPL captains of all time. During the 2016 season of IPL, Dhoni had a one-season stint as skipper with Rising Pune Supergiant, a team that existed temporarily from 2016 to 2017. He won five out of 14 matches, losing nine, and the franchise finished seventh on the points table.
As the captain of Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni has led the team in 199 matches out of 213 thus far. Under his leadership, the team has won 120 matches, lost 78, and one match failed to produce a result. Dhoni’s win percentage as skipper with CSK is 60.30%. In addition to his captaincy, Dhoni is also a highly-accomplished batter in IPL, with 5,004 runs in league history at an average of 39.09 and a strike rate of over 135. He has scored 24 half-centuries in his IPL career, with a personal best of 84*.
As MS Dhoni leads Chennai Super Kings in his 200th IPL match, it will undoubtedly be a special moment for the 41-year-old Indian cricket legend, who is likely playing in his final IPL season. With a team packed with star players, CSK will be aiming to make the occasion a memorable one with their performances on the field.

Currently, sitting in fifth place with four points, having won two and lost one of their matches, CSK still has a long way to go in the tournament. However, their immediate focus will be on their upcoming match against the Rajasthan Royals, who have been in terrific form and are also on four points, occupying the second spot in the points table.
