IPL 2023: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) could not play at their home ground for three years. They finally returned to the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru for the ‘RCB UNBOX’ event, which took place just a week before their 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign began. At the event, they also launched a new jersey for the tournament and De Villiers & Chris Gayle’s jersey numbers were retired in their honour.
RCB kicks off IPL 2023 campaign
A grand stage was centred in the ground for the momentous event. At first, the complete squad practised in the packed stadium with the complete squad including skipper Faf Du Plessis, Virat Kohli, and Glenn Maxwell. After that, the veteran batters Chris Gayle and Ab De Villeirs were presented with a lap of honour. They were well received with the huge roars from the crowd, as the iconic trio of Kohli, Gayle, and ABD was once again together.
Gayle won the hearts of the fans by showing dance moves while Virat recorded the moment on his phone. After this, the new jersey for the upcoming season was launched by the team on a grand stage. Faf and Virat presented the new design to the fans while the entire team later got on to with the new jersey.
Gayle and Ab De Villiers enter prestigious list
It was a momentous day for the franchise as Gayle and de Villiers became the first two members of the “RCB HALL OF FAME”. The team had announced the creation of this prestigious list in the previous year during the 2022 season. Kohli had even revealed on social media that Gayle and de Villiers would be the first two players to be inducted into this esteemed list.
