IPL 2023: JioCinema, the digital streaming partner of TATA IPL 2023, had a successful debut with a record-breaking 147 crore video views during the opening weekend. This marks the highest-ever opening weekend viewership on digital platforms for the TATA IPL.
JioCinema sets record at IPL 2023
This number of views exceeded the total number of views recorded during the entire last season of TATA IPL on digital and was also greater than the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. In addition, the average time spent per viewer per match was 57 minutes, which is an increase of over 60 percent compared to last season’s first weekend.
Viacom18 Sports CEO Anil Jayaraj stated, “These numbers are evidence of the digital revolution sweeping through the country. Digital is targetable, addressable and interactive. Unlike legacy services, measurement on digital is based on the exact number of people who come in to watch and not based on subjective extrapolation from a small sample set. The landscape for content consumption has irrevocably moved to digital and JioCinema performance this week is the biggest evidence of it.”
JioCinema got off to a great start with their coverage of the Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans opening match, which featured a peak concurrency of 16 million viewers. Moreover, JioCinema set a record for the most downloads of an app in a single day, with over 25 million installs.
JioCinema’s range of new features
JioCinema’s extensive fan-centric features paid off as over 10 crore new viewers and 5 crore new app downloads were recorded during the first weekend of TATA IPL 2023. Fans were delighted with the 4K feed, 12-language coverage, 16 unique feeds, hype mode, and multicam setup, among other features, which enhanced their viewing experience. JioCinema plans to introduce new features every week to keep fans happy and engaged. This demonstrates how digital platforms can create an immersive experience for fans.
