IPL 2024: ‘Impact Player Rule’ To Be Scrapped? BCCI President Jay Shah Shares New Development; Read Here

IPL 2024

BCCI general secretary opened up about the impact player rule and its future post IPL 2024. Find out the details here

IPL 2024: This season of IPL has been a record-breaking season in every sense. In the first half of the season, we saw almost every batting record being shattered as bowlers became mere rag dolls.

Many fans loved the entertainment while many experts criticized the pitches and rules that did not favor the bowlers. The ‘Impact Player’ rule was the one that the experts and fans most criticized for this lopsided battle.

The impact player rule gave the teams the luxury of one extra batsman. Which allowed them to go all out from the first ball without worrying about losing wickets. While this rule was not the sole reason for such humungous scores, it was one of the main reasons.

IPL 2024: Impact Player To Be Scrapped?

BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated that the Impact Player rule is not a permanent rule. Rather it was used as a ‘test’ in IPL to give opportunity to one extra Indian player. He also indicated that it might be scrapped next season.

According to Jay Shah, the BCCI is ready to take a call on this rule after consulting all the stakeholders. If the majority is against the rule, we might see the next season of IPL without this rule.

“Impact player was used as a test (in this IPL), it was done so that two Indian players could get a chance. It’s not permanent, we will have a discussion with the Indian team captain, players, franchises, and coaches and then take a call on it. The meeting can happen once the World Cup is over,” Shah stated.

Mega Auction 2025

Jay Shah also revealed that in the next meeting, they will discuss the matter of retention of players. The general secretary will meet the owners of IPL teams soon and will clarify the number of retentions allowed per team ahead of the mega auction in 2025.
