IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians are in a lot of trouble now. Not only they are on the verge of disqualification, but their players are also getting penalized now. The loss against Delhi Capitals has put the Mumbai franchise at the second to bottom of the standings.
On top of that, Ishan Kishan has also been fined by the BCCI for breaching the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct. The offense has resulted in Kishan being reprimanded with 10% of his total match fees.
The incident occurred during the IPL 2024 match between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians on Saturday in the Arun Jaitely Stadium. BCCI has reported that the wicketkeeper has accepted the sanction and will pay the fine.
Breaching IPL 2024 Code Of Conduct
IPL released a statement reading “Kishan committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offense and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
The statement further read “Article 2.2 includes any action outside the course of normal cricket actions. Such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly, or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows, and other fixtures and fittings. For example, this offense may be committed, without limitation, when a player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board.”
Charges Accepted
While Ishan has accepted the charges BCCI has not specified exactly what it is that Kishan did during the match which triggered the reprimand. Nor did they tell if the action happened during the match or when the teams were in the dugout.
