IPL 2024: Rohit Sharma has had a wonderful cricketing career so far. He is one of the greatest modern-day batsmen who can turn the game on his head if it is his day. But one thing has been a constant hindrance in the Indian team skipper’s career.
Injuries have always been a part of Rohit’s career. From the day he debuted till now, he has been fighting several injuries. Who can forget when he popped back his shoulder during the match itself? That is how many injuries have plagued his career.
He has been injury-free for a while now. But according to Piyush Chawla, the skipper might be relapsing into an injury again. The veteran spinner revealed the injury scare during the MI Vs KKR IPL 2024 post-match interview.
“Mild Back Stiffness”
Surprising everyone, Mumbai Indians put Rohit Sharma as an impact player against KKR on Friday. Everyone thought it was to increase the batting depth of the team and insert an extra batsman in the squad.
But things were different as the Mumbai franchise did that as a precaution. It has been confirmed that Sharma was suffering from a mild back stiffness before the match and playing could have been risky.
The veteran spinner Piyush Chawla stated in the post-match interview that “He just had a mild back stiffness so it was just a precautionary thing.” The opener was even looking in discomfort during the match and was only able to make 12 runs in 11 deliveries.
There have been no further comments by Mumbai or by Rohit himself about the injury, so it must not be worrying. But getting an injury scare so close to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is surely a worrying sign.
IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians Out Of Play-Off Race
In an interesting turn of events, Mumbai Indians were knocked out of the IPL 2024 playoff race by KKR. It was a shocking loss as Mumbai was in firm control of the match and stopped Kolkata with a mild score of just 170.
But no one expected the collapse that MI would suffer in their own home ground. Apart from Surya Kumar Yadav, no one was able to score a big total with 6 players getting out in single-digit score.
