IPL 2024: Another player has been punished for breaching the IPL’s code of conduct. We have seen so many players getting punished or reprimanded for breaching these codes of conduct.
Hardik Pandya and the whole Mumbai team were fined for a slow overrate. While that fine was justified, Harshit Rana had to bear a one-match ban and 1 match fees for a mildly aggressive celebration.
And now, Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson has been reprimanded for breaching the code of conduct against Delhi Capitals. Samson was found guilty of a Level 1 offense under Article 2.8 of the code of conduct, which relates to showing dissent at an umpire’s decision.
IPL 2024: A Tricky Call
The incident happened when Sanju was dismissed as Shai Hope took an exceptional catch on the boundary line. The third umpire took only around 1 minute to announce his decision and that left Samson frustrated.
Samson then engaged on-field umpires in a quite long conversation before leaving the field. He was quite upset with the decision as it was a very key moment in the game. Rajasthan lost the match eventually and this dismissal of Samson played a huge part in it.
This punishment very well lies in the law of cricket but we have seen so many incidents before like this that went unnoticed. MS Dhoni once marched down the field in rage over a wrong decision and was not fined. So, are the rules getting too strict, and players are not even allowed to express themselves on the field now?
‘It Is Difficult’
Royals’ Head Coach, Kumar Sangakkara defended the umpires and stated that it was a tricky call. “It depends on replays and angles, and sometimes you think the foot’s touched. But it is a difficult one for the third umpire to judge. The game was at a crucial stage, so that happens in cricket. We have different perspectives on it. At the end of the day, you have to stand by that decision in terms of what the umpires did. If we have any other kind of opinion on it, we will share it with the umpire and sort it out. But irrespective of that dismissal, we still should have probably seen that game home.”
