IPL 2024 Will Take Place in India During Elections, BCCI Confirms

IPL 2024

IPL 2024: Arun Singh Dhumal, the chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has reportedly said that the 17th Indian Premier League (IPL), or IPL 2024, will take place in India despite the nation’s general elections taking place at that exact time. Arun Singh Dhumal added that the Indian government and the premier cricket organisation are collaborating to develop a precise plan that will guarantee the seamless running of both the Lok Sabha and IPL elections.

IPL Start and End Dates Clarified

The BCCI Chairman also addressed the precise start and end dates of the richest cricket tournament in the globe, which has already been rumoured and speculated to begin on March 22 according to multiple publications (as reported by IANS on February 14).

“We will work with the Indian government, agencies to make sure that the league takes place in India. We are waiting for the schedule of the general election to be announced and then we will plan accordingly…like which state will host what game at the time of election will be planned that way. It (IPL) will most likely start from March end… and general elections are in April, so we will work it out with the help of the government,” said Arun Singh Dhumal, as reported by IANS.

Hope for 18 Games Per Team in IPL Dashed

With ten teams taking part, it was thought that the IPL may finally see a league phase of eighteen games per side, giving every team an equal and fair chance to qualify. Fans of cricket, however, may have to wait at least another year for this to occur since the Indian Premier League will continue to play 14 games each team.

At the moment, Chennai Spuer Kings are the league’s defending champions and share the most titles (5 apiece), with Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders coming in second and third, respectively.
