IPL 2024: Yash Dayal became an overnight sensation after closing a thriller and leading his team to victory against CSK. It was one of the best matches of the tournament with the last playoff spot on-line.
CSK needed 17 runs in the last over to qualify for the playoffs. MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja were on strike and Dhoni hit first delivery for a 110-meter six. But after that, Dayal clutched and guided his team to victory.
He got MS Dhoni’s wicket on the next delivery and then only conceded 1 run in the next 4 deliveries. It was one of the best performances by the left-arm bowler after a dreadful year he had last year.
Emotional Father
In Prayagraj, Yash’s father was watching the thriller with complete focus and was praying on every delivery. He somehow turned on the TV right before the game’s final over and broke the family’s rule.
He was regretting the decision for a while but as his son prevailed against all odds, he was relieved and happy. After a year of disappointment, his son finally got rid of all the demons and turned out to be the victor.
“I blamed myself for ruining another match for my son. Dhoni can still tear apart any bowler. I just folded my hands and started praying. ‘Aaj mere bachhe ka saath dena bhagwaan, fir se wo nahi hona chahiye (God, please support my son today. It should not happen again). It felt good the way he held his nerve after the first ball. I enjoyed the winning moment.”
IPL 2024 Redemption
This was not the first time that Yash got the opportunity to close a game. He was in a similar position last year against KKR. When Rinku Singh hit 5 sixes in his final over to guide KKR to victory.
Talking about that moment, Yash’s father Chandrapal states “In one of the WhatsApp groups, a person I know shared a meme, mocking Yash for conceding five sixes and I still remember what he wrote with the picture ‘Prayagraj Express ki kahaani shuru hone se pehle hi khatam ho gayi.”
He further stated “It never stopped, we as a family literally quit all WhatsApp groups, barring our family one. Even when RCB picked him in the auction for Rs 5 crore, I remember someone saying ‘Paise naale mei baha aaye Bangalore waale (The franchise threw the money in the drain)’. We live in a world where even if you switch off from social media, you will end up seeing all kinds of stuff.”
