IPL 2025: It looks like even BCCI wants MS Dhoni to play next season. That is why multiple reports have suggested that the BCCI and IPL owners are looking at 5-6 retentions in the upcoming IPL mega auction.
That is not all, the BCCI is also looking at separate retention of uncapped players in this season. This will definitely destroy the point of the mega auction but will benefit teams who have groomed players for a long time.
Several more decisions have been made in the much-awaited meeting with even salary purses being likely to be increased. This will definitely give more excitement to the mega auction as teams can go all out on more than one player now.
IPL 2025: Far More Retentions
According to reports, every team will be allowed 5-6 retentions with 2 additional slots of retentions for uncapped players. This means that every team will essentially have almost 7-8 retentions.
The reports also suggest that the mega auction could take place every 5 years. but with almost 7-8 retentions allowed, what is the point of it? It is great news for the uncapped players but these are far too many retentions.
It also contradicts the point of increased salary purse entirely as the teams will have fewer players to bid on. With one Right To Match card also being discussed, any team can almost retain it’s playing 11 completely.
Impact Player?
There were several reports and speculations that the Impact Player rule might be scrapped. While the players and coaches were against the rule, the owners wanted the rule to stay.
After all the debacle, it looks like the Impact Player rule will stay and will not be scrapped at all. These reports have made one thing clear, like always, this season of IPL will also be filled with controversies and will be exciting.
