The meeting between BCCI and the franchise owner for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction turned into a huge mess. The owners were on different pages and some were even against the idea of a mega auction.
It is understandable as every team is in a different position at the moment. While teams like KKR, CSK, MI, and SRH have their core set and do not want Mega Auction. Teams like DC, PBKS, and GT were in favor of less number of retentions.
The heated discussion became an argument when KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan got into an animated discussion with PBKS owner Ness Wadia. Several reports have claimed that the meeting had to finish early because of this.
Shah Rukh Khan Huge Fight
Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL this time around and have a very strong Indian and Foreign core. That is why Shah Rukh Khan was against the idea of four or less number of retentions.
Meanwhile, Ness Wadia and PBKS have not been able to make a solid core for 18 years now and think this is a good opportunity. This clash of ideas resulted in a huge uproar where SRK’s ideas were supported by SRH owner Kavya Maran.
IPL 2025: Kavya Maran Demands Action
SRH also made final this year and after 3 long years, they have a decent core that they would like to retain. Kavya Maran supported SRK and was in favor of mini-auction or wants more retentions.
She stated, “It takes a lot of time to build a squad & as discussed it also takes quite a bit of time & investment for the younger players to mature – it has taken Abhishek 3 years to become consistent with his performance – you would agree that there are many such examples with other teams”.
She further demanded action against the Foreign players who backs out of the team at the last possible second. Stating that other than injury, any reason to opt out at the last moment should get that player banned.
