The West Indies are all set for 22 home games this season starting next month. Meanwhile, the preparations for the mega home season have already started but all-rounder Jason Holder, who was also the part of recently postponed IPL has been rested for the first part of the West Indies’ three-week high-performance camp that begins on Sunday in St Lucia.
The World Number 1 Test all-rounder will join the camp at the end of this month. He has been rested due to loads of work in the coming season where the team will compete in all three formats and looking at the current squad Holder can only be said the full-time 3-format player for West Indies.
The camp of 30 players will include two best best intra-squad match as West Indies loomk ahead to their final series in the ICC World Test Championship, against South Africa in June.
“This camp is very important for our preparation for the upcoming Test series against South Africa and for the rest of our busy and exciting summer. We will continue the work which we began last year in England, to further develop our Test team into a force to be reckoned with in world cricket,” said coach Phil Simmons.
“We welcome the good news of a rise to sixth in the ICC Test Rankings. However, this is just the beginning of our journey and we know we have lots of hard work ahead of us.”
Meanwhile, Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite, fast bowler Kemar Roach and Alzarri Joseph will not be attending the camps as they are currently competing in the English County Championship and will return back to West Indies for the Test series if they got selected.
