IPL Viral Video: Gujarat Titans batter Kane Williamson has gone back to New Zealand after sustaining a knee injury while playing in the first game of the IPL 2023 season against the Chennai Super Kings. Even though he was seen using crutches and wearing a special knee brace, Williamson mentioned that he was not experiencing too much pain.
Kane Williamson injured in IPL 2023 opener
Kane Williamson got hurt while trying to prevent a six in the match against the Chennai Super Kings. The incident occurred in the 13th over of the game when Ruturaj Gaikwad hit a ball from Josh Little towards the boundary. Williamson attempted to catch the ball to prevent it from crossing the boundary, but unfortunately, he fell awkwardly on his right knee while doing so.
During the game, Kane Williamson was replaced by another player from the Titans team. The physiotherapists of both the Chennai Super Kings and the Gujarat Titans checked on him after he got injured. The Gujarat Titans announced shortly after that Williamson would not play in the rest of IPL 2023 and would go back to New Zealand for treatment.
Williamson arrived in Auckland earlier today, and media caught up with him. They shared a video where Williamson was seen walking with crutches. When reporters asked him about his injury, Williamson said: “It’s not too painful at the moment.”

It’s not clear how severe Kane Williamson’s injury is at the moment, but if it’s serious, he might not be able to play in the Cricket World Cup in India later this year. Williamson will be receiving treatment soon to recover from his knee injury. The Gujarat Titans team might announce a replacement player for Williamson soon in IPL 2023, as he won’t be able to continue playing in the tournament.
