BCCI: The hunt for a new coach for the Indian cricket team is in full force. BCCI has already released the Google forms from where anyone can apply for the position and there are some strong contenders for that position.
Rahul Dravid extended tenure ends after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and BCCI wants to finalize that position before that. Applications have arrived but it looks like BCCI has a different plan this time.
Firstly, the Central Cricket Board of India is mulling over a foreign coach this time rather than a national one. And there are some names at the top of the list of BCCI, including Stephen Fleming and Tom Moody.
BCCI Considering Stephen Fleming?
According to various sources, CSK head coach Fleming is being considered as a suitable candidate for the head coach role. BCCI is impressed with his management skills and ability to bring the best out of everyone. He also has an impeccable track record in IPL.
The reports also revealed that some informal discussions have already taken place between the parties. If Fleming accepts the Indian coach job, he would have to disassociate himself from the CSK franchise.
If Fleming gets the job, we might see MS Dhoni becoming the coach for CSK and also being involved in the Indian team. Another name that is being considered is Tom Moody who has managed SRH in the past.
Dravid Won’t Re-Apply
Various sources have confirmed that Rahul Dravid won’t reapply and is not seeking further extensions due to personal reasons. Many senior players requested him to stay with the team for 1 more year.
But Dravid has already made up his mind and won’t continue as Indian head coach. Sources also have stated that VVS Laxman is unlikely to apply as well.
