Gautam Gambhir: It looks like BCCI has made their decision about the next head coach and has finalized their candidate. Amongst the pile of 3,000 applications, the Indian Cricket Board has found their candidate outside those applications.
Kolkata Knight Riders were the most dominant side of IPL 2024 and won the title sensationally. It was one of the most one-sided IPL finals of all time and many credits had to be given to Gambhir.
Gautam Gambhir was the mentor of KKR and has been a very influential figure in their dressing room. Every player has individually thanked him for everything he has done. Shah Rukh Khan reportedly offered him a blank cheque to be KKR’s mentor for a decade.
Gautam Gambhir In Demand
This is not all, Gambhir as a leader has been phenomenal. In the previous two IPL seasons, he led Lucknow Super Giants to playoffs. Before that, he won two IPL trophies with KKR as a captain.
So, it is natural that he is in high demand currently. And BCCI would not like to let go of this opportunity. Reports came out a few weeks ago that stated that the Indian Cricket Board has approached Gambhir for the head coach position.
And in the latest development in this Gambhir-BCCI saga, a very high-profile owner of an IPL franchise who is very close to the BCCI top brass told Cricbuzz that Gambhir’s appointment is a done deal and the announcement will come soon.
Same Mentality
The Indian Cricket Board has been impressed with the emotion that Gambhir shares with him. Both groups are high on desh ke liye karna hai’.
BCCI & Gambhir share the same belief that “We must do it for the country” – the talks between Jay Shah & Gambhir are centered on this idea.
