The upcoming Duleep Trophy will be a crucial tournament for many players. A few months ago, BCCI announced that every player needed to play in domestic tournaments.
With almost a one-month-long break from international duties, The Indian cricket board is looking at a domestic tournament to keep everyone in shape. And for a few players, it will be a matter of more than just being in shape.
Ishan Kishan has been an outcast from the Indian team for a while now. After some miscommunication, he was sidelined from the Indian team, but now has the opportunity to make his comeback.
While Kishan would like to make his comeback in the Blue jersey, for other senior players it is also crucial after that underwhelming performance against Sri Lanka.
Ishan Kishan Comeback!
The left-handed wicketkeeper has not played for the Indian team in 2024. He was part of the squad in the 2023 Asia Cup, but since has been dropped from the side with no signs of redemption.
But he has a chance now. The Duleep Trophy will shift from a zonal format to a more national format. There will be four teams India A, B, C, and D. The crucial thing is that each team will be selected by the National selection committee with Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar in charge.
It will not only give Kishan his place in the current scenarios but will also allow him a chance to return to the national side.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma
It looks like under Gambhir’s regime, the Indian players will be back in the domestic circuit. For a few years, the national side players had stopped playing in the domestic circuit of India.
But after they struggle against spin against Sri Lanka, the Indian players might be going back to their roots. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin have been recommended to play in the 2024-25 Duleep Trophy.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been given the choice, whilst Jasprit Bumrah will be rested to manage his workload.
