Rohit Sharma: and Ajit Agarkar finally addressed the press for the first time after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 squad announcement. The BCCI chief selector and Indian team skipper answered all the questions that were on everyone’s mind.
It was obvious that one such question would be the sacking of Rohit as the Mumbai Indians captain. Ironically, that was the first question that was asked by the reporters and Rohit answered it wonderfully.
Rohit acknowledged the fact that he has been under several captains in his career and he has always tried to do what was asked of him. He has been trying to do that only for the past few months now.
Rohit Sharma: ‘It Has Been Wonderful’
The Indian skipper stated, “I have played under lots of captains, not a new thing, do what you are required to do and I have been doing it for the last one month.” He further stated that it has been a wonderful experience.
Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar also talked about Hardik Pandya and stated that there is no replacement for the kind of role he brings to the team.
He stated “There have been no talks about the vice-captaincy! What Hardik brings as a cricketer, it’s tough to replace – he gives lots of options to the captain as well and he is just coming back after a long break”.
KL Rahul Not Selected
The keeper conundrum was also brought up by the reporters, especially the exclusion of KL Rahul. Ajit Agarkar said “Rahul has been batting at the top order. We were looking for middle-order WK. We feel Sanju has the ability to bat down the order. It is about the slots we needed to fill, that is the thinking behind backing Pant & Samson”.
