WTC Final: When choosing India’s starting lineup for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, which will start at The Oval on June 7, captain Rohit Sharma and the support staff, lead by head coach Rahul Dravid, are likely to experience some headaches. The top five in India largely choose themselves. The confusion starts at number 6, though.
Selecting the Ideal Spinner for India’s WTC Final XI
First, who should India choose as their wicketkeeper: Ishan Kishan or KS Bharat? They should choose either Ravindra Jadeja or Ravichandran Ashwin, right? But what if The Oval’s surface and playing conditions call for the use of more pacers? If so, are they able to play both Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur? Who then takes Ashwin’s spot between Jadeja’s and? Jaydev Unadkat is a fourth seamer, but is he healthy enough to play? India elected to deploy their best XI with both Jadeja and Ashwin in it in the most recent WTC final, disregarding the circumstances. They had to pay for it. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Ishant Sharma needed assistance from an additional seamer, but he or she wasn’t available due to the cloudy and wet weather.
The Ideal Batting Order for India’s WTC Final Lineup
Mohammed Kaif, a former cricketer for India, says that India’s selection of the fifth bowler should be based on the circumstances. Ishan Kishan should bat as the keeper, and Ravindra Jadeja should bowl spin at No. 6, according to Kaif, who has no concerns about this. ‘Shubhman Gill and Rohit Sharma should start the World Test Championship, followed by Pujara, who plays at number three and has experience there. Virat Kohli would come in at number four, followed by Rahane, who rejoins the team. Ishan Kishan would be my choice to start instead of KS Bharat because you need someone to play offensive shots at number six because Rishabh Pant already filled that position. I’ll play Jadeja at seven,’ Kaif said in an interview with Star Sports before the summit match.
Kaif’s Decision between Ashwin and Shardul Thakur
According to Kaif, depending on the circumstances and weather, Ashwin and Shardul Thakur would compete for the No. 8 position. ‘According to the pitch’s characteristics, I would either bat Ashwin or Shardul at position eight. If the pitch favours spin, Ashwin can target left-handed batsmen like Warner, Travis Head, and Khawaja, thus it will be a fantastic match-up. Fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj would be my first choices, followed by Umesh Yadav at position eleven. Because it’s early June and you’ll need three fast bowlers in addition to Jadeja and Ashwin or Shardul, depending on the prediction, this would be my favourite playing eleven,’ he continued.
