Jasprit Bumrah, leading indian speed bowler, is reportedly out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka due to fitness concerns, as per the sources. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had already given Bumrah a return to India’s ODI team for the three-match series against Sri Lanka. In September of last year, Bumrah last appeared for India in a T20I match with Australia.
Jasprit Bumrah absent since a long time
Since then, he has continued to miss several significant occasions for India, such as the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup. Bumrah’s return to the Indian side for the match against Sri Lanka was anticipated with much eagerness, but it appears that the bowler would need a little more time to get back to full health.
One of the main factors contributing to India’s inability to compete in the T20 World Cup and Asia Cup was Bumrah’s exclusion from the teams. The BCCI was even accused by some of hastily returning Bumrah. The board seems unwilling to take any chances with the star pacer at this moment, it seems.
Bumrah’s name has previously been added to the Indian team’s list for the Sri Lanka series in a BCCI statement. “The All-India Senior Selection Committee has included pacer Jasprit Bumrah in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming Mastercard 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka,” the statement read.
Continuing further, it mentioned, “Bumrah was out of cricketing action since September 2022 and was also ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to a back injury. The pacer has undergone rehabilitation and has been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He will be joining the Team India ODI squad soon.”
Important events in 2023
However, Bumrah is anticipated to play in the World Test Championship final, the Indian Premier League, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at home in a four-Test series beginning next week, as well as the World Cup, which will be held in India later this year.
Despite not being included in India’s initial team, Bumrah continued to upload videos of his training and upcoming return on social media while healing. The board ultimately chose to add him in a successful start to the new year. However, it appears that Bumrah’s return to first-class cricket has been postponed since the bowler could still not be fully prepared.
