Jasprit Bumrah: After a long break from cricket due to injury, the Indian cricket team’s pace specialist, Jasprit Bumrah, has just had successful surgery for his persistent back injury in New Zealand. Dr. Rowan Schouten, a renowned orthopaedic surgeon who has already treated a number of well-known cricketers, including James Pattinson and Jofra Archer, carried out the surgery. Reports reveal that he won’t be able to play for next six months.
Tournaments missed by Bumrah
Due to his consistent issues with the back injury, he has missed out on several important tournaments including 2022 Asia Cup and ICC T20 World Cup. He got injured in September last year and has not been able to play cricket ever since.
Fans had hoped that Bumrah would play soon, as his name was initially mentioned in the squad for a series against Sri Lanka in January, however, he was soon dropped from the squad because of the same injury. Eventually, the pace spearhead had to go throw the surgery, which is important for India as ODI World Cup 2023 is inching closer.
As per the sources, Bumrah won’t be able to play for the next 24 months due to the surgery. Resultantly, he will miss tournaments such as IPL and 2023 Asia Cup as well. However, there are hopes that he might join the team for the World Cup.
BCCI yet to release official statement
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet released an official statement regarding the talented fast bowler’s status. Nonetheless, the cricket community anticipates that Bumrah will resume training in August and will be fully fit for the upcoming ODI World Cup.
