Asia Cup 2023: Recognising the dedication and hard work of the groundstaff and curators at the Asia Cup 2023 venues in Sri Lanka, namely Colombo and Kandy, both Jay Shah, the chief of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), and the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board have announced a prize money of USD 50,000 (INR 41,54,517.50) as a token of appreciation.

The Asia Cup 2023 adopted a hybrid format, with matches held in both Pakistan and Sri Lanka, following the BCCI’s decision not to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the tournament. Consequently, Pakistan and Sri Lanka jointly hosted the event. Pakistan served as the host for four matches, including a Super 4s stage encounter, while Sri Lanka took on the responsibility of hosting the remaining matches, encompassing all of India’s matches and the final, held in Kandy and Colombo.
Poor weather, characterised by rain and poor conditions, has been a challenge throughout this year’s tournament. Consequently, numerous fixtures have been either cancelled, curtailed, or extended over multiple days. In these circumstances, the groundsmen and curators have shouldered the weight of ensuring that fans could still enjoy some cricket action, demonstrating tremendous dedication and effort.

Godfrey Dabare, the national curator for Sri Lanka Cricket, shared insights into his team’s efforts in managing the India vs. Pakistan Super 4 match. He mentioned that his team had to hire 100 laborers, a substantial increase from the usual 60 workers they would employ for such tasks. India clinched their eighth Asia Cup title in the Asia Cup 2023, securing a dominant victory over Sri Lanka in a one-sided final, triumphing by 10 wickets.
