Jyothika Dandi: Dreaming is free but to achieve those dreams you have to pay with every single drop of your sweat, tears, and blood. That is how you carve a path in a world where everyone is dreaming.
You have to run toward your dream and when Jyothika Dandi ran, the world shut down and saw her achieving her dream. Indian 4X400m relay team qualified for the Paris Olympics on Monday after securing the second spot at the World Athletics Relays.
This is the first time that Indian athletes have secured Olympic qualification automatically rather than through rankings. Rupal Chaudhary, M R Poovamma, Jyothika Sri Dandi, and Subha Venkatesan were part of the Indian relay squad.
Who Is Jyothika Dandi?
Jyothika wanted to be a doctor rather than a professional runner. She scored 97 percent in her 10th class exams. But her father steered her towards athletics as it was also his lifelong dream to see her represent India in the Olympics.
Her father, Srinivasa Rao always supported her and had the same passion as her for sports. He did not even want her to take job in railways as it would have hampered her running. But after Jyothika’s coach reasoned with him, he agreed to the job.
Even Jyothika states how her father has helped her in every step of her journey. He has taken care of her diet and training since childhood. It was a tough moment when Jyothika was not able to participate in the Hangzhou Asian Games because of an injury. But now she has secured her qualification for the biggest athletic event in the world.
‘I Wanted To Be A Doctor’
In her own words, Jyothika stated that she wanted to be a doctor. She further stated that she got 97 percent in 10th class and was considering medical as her future option.
But once she started doing sports, she was not able to go back and think about becoming a doctor. Since then it has always been her father and Jyothika herself, challenging the world.
