Kabaddi: National level player accuses coach of sexual assault; police probe started

Kabaddi: A 27-year-old national-level kabaddi player has accused her coach of sexual assault. The incident came to light on Tuesday (7 February) when a case was filed after an FIR was reported last week. According to reports, the complainant told the police that she was training for kabaddi competitions in Hirakunda near Mundka in West Bengal since 2012.

Severe allegations against the coach

She also stated that her coach attempted to engage in sexual relations with her without her consent in 2015. Additionally, the kabaddi player accused the coach of forcing her to give him a portion of her earnings from a competition she won in 2018.

The kabaddi player, who got married in 2021, claims that the accused continued to blackmail her by threatening to release her private photos. Upon receiving the complaint last week at Baba Haridas Nagar police station, the police have initiated an investigation. According to a police officer, the suspect runs an academy where the player came into contact with him.

Last month, well-known Indian wrestlers like Bajrang Punia and Anshu Malik, among others, accused Wrestling Federation President Brij Bhushan Sharma of sexual harassment. The situation escalated when world championship medallist Vinesh Phogat accused the president of harassing girls and referred to him as “khotta sikka.”

Similar allegations gainst WFI President

These allegations have sparked widespread outrage and concern in the Indian sports community, leading to calls for a thorough investigation into the matter. The accused coach and Brij Bushan Sharma both deny the allegations and claim they are innocent.
