KL Rahul: Before leaving their position with the BCCI, the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee would have to choose the two white-ball squads for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka, which starts on January 3. Additionally, a report states that KL Rahul is likely to be pulled from the T20I lineup as the selectors search for specialist options. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, the team’s normal captain, is still recovering from his injury and may not play in the series.
KL Rahul’s poor form since Asia cup
Since the Asia Cup, Rahul’s performance in T20Is has been inconsistent. In 16 innings, he has managed six half-century runs, but in seven of the remaining ten, he has been removed for single-digit runs. Five of the single-digit scores occurred in the T20 World Cup’s important games.
According to a report, Rohit will miss a second straight series for India while Rahul is expected to lose his job. Rohit was previously ruled out of the Test series against Bangladesh after failing to recover from the thumb injury he sustained during the ODI match against Litton Das’ team. Hardik Pandya is anticipated to captain the team in his place.
Shubman Gill to get a chance?
The selectors might offer Shubman Gill a chance if Rahul is benched after he was denied the chance to make his format debut during the tour of New Zealand. After a stellar performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he finished as the second-highest run-scorer, Prithvi Shaw may also receive the recognition he deserves. He had a strike rate of 181.42 and 332 runs in 10 innings, including a career-high 61-ball 134.
Three T20I matches will be played commencing on January 3 and three ODIs will start on January 10 to kick off the Sri Lanka series.
