The semi final match between Inter Miami and FC Cincinnati broke all the viewership record as Lionel Messi leads his team to finals.

Lionel Messi: Another day, another achievement by Lionel Messi as Inter Miami reached the finals of the U.S. Open Cup. After winning the Leagues Cup a few days back with the help of an inspired performance by the World Cup winner, the Miami club is ready to win their second silverware.

It was a grueling match as the winner was decided in the penalty shootout where Inter Miami once again clutched the title. The regulation time saw both teams scoring 2 goals while both teams scored once again in the extra time.

The semi-final match between Cincinnati and Miami also broke the record for most most-watched game in football history. Earlier the record belonged to the debut match of Lionel Messi for Inter Miami.

Lionel Messi Guides Miami To Victory

It was Lionel Messi once again who helped his team come back after conceding two goals in the contest. Cincinnati were up by 2 goals by the 53rd minute and Miami’s getting knocked out was looking inevitable.

But the Argentine had other ideas as he assisted his strike partner Leonardo Campana in the 68th and then in the 97th minute to force extra time. Josef Martinez gave Miami the lead in 3rd minute of extra time but Yuya Kubo equalized in the 113th minute to force penalties.

Drake Callender was the hero once again as he saved the last penalty while Miami players scored all 5 penalties. Miami edged out a 5-4 victory in the penalties and booked their place in the second final in just a week.

Viewership Record Broken

According to ESPN, This match broke all the previous viewership records. The semi-final match attracted 620 million viewers. ESPN further clarified that this match had more views than all Saudi league games combined this week.
