Owner of LSG Sanjiv Goenka and captain KL Rahul were spotted sharing a warm hug, this comes after one week when a video of them arguing went viral. This casual exchange began when Sanjiv Goenka hosted a special dinner for the team in Delhi prior to their crucial IPL 2024 match against the Delhi Capitals.
A Public Spat Goes Viral
After the initial video went viral, many fans thought Goenka was openly criticising Rahul for LSG’s crushing 10-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 8. The defeat and an inadequate Net Run Rate (NRR) had threatened LSG’s prospects of making the playoffs.
Fueling the Fire
Former cricket players and supporters criticised Goenka for his actions after the event, saying it was needless. The lack of response from the LSG camp added fuel to the rumours, which suggested that KL Rahul might be dropped for the forthcoming IPL season or even have his captaincy changed.
Clearing the Air
Recent posts on social media, however, present a different image. Pictures of Goenka and Rahul hugging up imply a reunion. In an interview, LSG coach Justin Langer also discussed the now-famous exchange. He explained that although the lack of audio may have given the impression that it was a furious conversation, it was actually a “tame” talk about the team’s plan for losing the game.
