Six-time world champion MC Mary Kom has been elected as the chairman of the ‘Champions and Veterans’ committee of the International Boxing Association (AIBA). The Vishwa Sanstha formed this panel last year. Thirty-seven-year 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Mary Kom was elected to the post after voting on the board of directors of AIBA. This star boxer has been the brand ambassador of the world body on many occasions.
AIBA President Omar Kremlev said in a letter to Mary Kom, “Glad to inform you that after voting through the mail of the Board of Directors of AIBA, you will be served as the Chairman of AIBA’s Champions and Veterans’ Committee.”
She also said, “I am confident that with your immense knowledge and experience you will contribute significantly to the success of this important committee.”
This committee was formed in December last year, “in which respectable people from all over the world Includes veteran and champion boxers who are ready to share their experiences. ”
She said, “Thank you AIBA President Omar Kremlev and all the boxing family for giving this new responsibility. I will give my best. ”Mary Kom has qualified for her second and final Olympics – the Tokyo Olympics to be held in July-August this year.
