MCA postpones Mumbai T20 League citing COVID surge

Mumbai Cricket Association said on Thursday that it has now postponed the Mumbai T20 League due to the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In the view of the current situation, President Vijay Patil ji and I, in my capacity as the Chairman, have taken the decision to not conduct the T20 Mumbai League till further notice. This is our way to reduce the load on the state machinery and also making sure everyone is safe,” said the MCA in a statement.

The 2021 edition was supposed to be the third edition of the tournament. Before this, it was held in 2018 and 2019. In 2020 also this tournament was postponed due to COVID-19.

For the first time, Maharashtra reported more four digit daily fatalities with the toll crossing the mark of 67,000.

The state reported 1035 new deaths in the last 24-hours the previous peak was 895 on April 27.
