Meerut News: Neeraj Chopra, India’s renowned athlete following his historic victory at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary last month, found himself in the spotlight once more. However, this time, it wasn’t Neeraj directly involved in the situation, but rather a statue recently installed in his honour in Meerut that garnered attention.
Javelin missing from Neeraj Chopra’s statue
Just a week after the installation of his statue at the Hapur Adda crossing in Meerut, the javelin held in its hands has mysteriously disappeared. The circumstances surrounding its disappearance or possible damage remain unclear, prompting the police to initiate an investigation into the matter. The incident first came to light when social activist Lokesh Khurana brought it to everyone’s attention. Khurana has called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
He said, “The part is either broken of stolen. If it has been stolen, efforts on a war footing should be made to trace the same and if it is broken, an inquiry should immediately be ordered to fix.” It’s worth mentioning that the Meerut Development Authority (MDA) honored the Indian track and field athlete with a statue installation on August 29. The location also features statues of various other Olympic athletes.
