Messi on 1000-peso bill: Argentina is currently in full celebration mode following their national football team’s FIFA World Cup victory. The Argentine Central Bank reportedly wants to place Lionel Messi’s image on their 1000 peso currency, according to recent reports. The country is now celebrating the Lionel Messi-led team’s first World Cup victory since 1986. El Financiero, a financial publication, said that the Central Bank executives made the ideas in jest.
The idea, according to the Daily Mail, was made to commemorate Messi and company’s 4-2 victory over France in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 final’s penalty shootout. The Central Bank officials reportedly began developing ideas even before the momentous final in Qatar, according to some reports. According to the story, Messi’s appearance on the banknote was suggested “jokingly.”

Members of the Argentine Central Bank ‘jokingly’ suggested this possibility.
The 1000-peso currency now features Messi’s image since it corresponds with his recognisable jersey number “10.” El Financiero’s report mentioned, “Before you think otherwise, this option was ‘jokingly’ proposed by members of the Argentine Central Bank, although the most enthusiastic directors, such as Lisandro Cleri, a fervent supporter of Boca Juniors , and Eduardo Hecker, a follower of Independiente, agreed on that a banknote with this design would awaken the collecting spirit of Argentines.”
The newspaper added that the nation had previously produced commemorative coins, particularly following its first FIFA World Cup victory in 1978. The note will now include the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s face, with Argentine coach Leo Scaloni positioned in the background. After taking on the post of coach in 2018, Scaloni earned the moniker “La Scalonet.”
And on the ticket’s back? After their victory in the 2021 Copa América, the Finalissima (the game against Italy, the most recent champion of the Euro), and Qatar 2022, they claim that “La Scaloneta” (the team managed by Leonel Scaloni) has already done enough to justify being memorialised there.
